Assessment of news source: Formerly known as the news division of the Columbia Broadcasting System, CBS News is now an American television and radio service of the CBS Corporation that is dedicated to producing the best of journalism that adheres to the standards the organization established at the dawn of the digital age. The news organization is funded primarily through advertising and, as a result of this, is known for advertising and presenting a left of center of political party bias. The reporting coverage of CBS is predominantly framed in a way that favors a liberal bias.Summary: This article discusses the way President Trump handled the trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada in a news conference on Monday. The president has had a history of calling the North American Free Trade Agreement the “worst deal ever made,” yet he celebrated the U.S., Mexico, Canada agreement, called USMCA. Through this, President Trump fulfilled one of his many campaign promises and claimed the UMSCA a “historic transaction” that strengthens the connections between the United States and its closest trading partners.
Analysis: This article is written with a clear liberal bias, as negatively connotated words are frequently used to describe the President and his actions. Words such as touts, mocked, and belittle are utilized in the explanation of the event, which typically have an aggressive background to them. In addition to this, President Trump’s contradicting views are brought up in various points of this article, further emphasising the liberal bias present at CBS News. As a reader, it was very evident to me which political party bias CBS News has, even without doing any research on the organization. I am unsure if this is true for all stories, but CBS News coverage definitely requires further investigation.
Opinion: I personally will not be using CBS News as my preferred news source. Regardless of my political party, news organizations (like this one and FOX News) often skew information and require too much further investigation to find the truth. Because of this, I will be turning to more reliable news sources.
