CE BLOG 5
The source chosen for this weeks current event blog was The Hills news. It is an American political news source published in Washington D.C in 1994 by Capitol Hill and is owned by news communications. The Hill focuses mainly on the news that contains political, policy, business and international relations. It is a newspaper journal as well as a website. Although, I did investigate on media bias/fact check and they are categorized as a left centered bias which is liberal.
The article I chose was " Trump: US to 'begin cutting off' aid to countries associated with migrant caravan" by Brett Samuels. It projects the actions our government is taking towards thousands of immigrants fleeing their countries to find safety from violence and gangs in their countries. Samuels describes that the government is deciding to take away from the countries in a form of punishment for not stoping the caravan of immigrants. He also mentions that the president of the United States of America will be getting the military involved and called this a national emergency.
Interestingly, in this article the author uses visual aiding in order to give his article credibility because aside from quoting the tweets from the president he also adds the actual picture of the tweet. Although, The Hill newspaper is considered biased this article contains factual evidence of what the government wants to do. This article depicts the events that have occurred and that add up to what he is saying such as threatening to cut off international aid but the congress is not scheduled to meet until after midterm elections and that the facts he claims to get his information from are not accurate such as claiming that the people in the caravans are horrid criminals.
In my opinion, as soon as I read the article I could tell that there was a bias which is why I quickly investigated further. Although, I do believe that the article has enough evidence to prove its point towards a liberal stand view. I think a conservative could also read the article and suggest that the facts are true, the only thing different would be the perspective behind reading. A conservative could also read this article suggest its correct and maintain their perspective. I do not think this article has a strong enough bias to shift someones view only support them
