Assesment of News Article
This story of a officer in Dallas who killed a black man because he thought that he was a burglar was found on USA Today. USA Today is the third most circulated news source in the USA and was founded by a Gannett Company chairman by the name of Al Neuharth. USA Today focuses more on the middle class for their audience when posting their articles. The writer of this story is John Bacon, a rewrite chief who has been writing for USA today for more than three decades.

Summary of Article
A police officer in Dallas recently got off of work and went home to her appartment. The off-duty officer usually parked on the third floor of her parking garage but this afternoon she decided to park on the fourth floor and tries to go into an appartment room that was not her's. She initially thought that she was on her floor of the apartment, the third floor, but forgot that she was on the fourth floor so the room she thought the room that she entered was her room. She then saw a black male in the room and she thought he was stealing from her room so she shot him twice. Once she opened the lights to realize it was not her apartment and that it was a misunderstandment she called the hospital to pick up the black male where he died at the hospital.

Analysis
The goal of this article was to point out how racial discrimination is possibly still a problem after this situation. The focus towards the end of this story was more towards how the officer seemed to have "special treatment" since she remained free for three days rather than the court taking a more immediate approach to it by locking her up. The family of the young black male saw this as racial profiling, since the officer was a middle aged white woman. The family also stated how this situation now proves that black people are not only unsafe within their communities, in their cars, or at stores, but they are now not safe in their own homes because of their skin color.

Opinion
I believe the whole situation is a bit ridiculous. For someone to completly be oblivious to the fact that they are on the wrong floor and wrong apartment room is something that is hard to believe. I am certain that it was not her first day at this apartment so it almost seems as if there is a deeper story to this other than her thinking that she was entering her own apartment building. I believe that she should recieve servere punishment for what she has done, it seems as if she did not even give the guy a chance to "surrender" or to stop, she fired at will, is that how cops are trained to deal with situations like this? She should be revoked of her badge from the police department and serve time in prison for this.
