Assessment of News Source
This article was found on the MSN news website prominently displayed at the top of their feed. This article about immigration was originally written by Tal Kopan who is a female digital politics reporter who was hired by CNN in 2015. CNN which stands for Cable News Network, has had quite a few controversies in the past few years, and is know to skew the news to fit their agenda, which tends to be more along the lines of the Democratic Party.
Summary of Article
This article was about the children who have been taken into United States custody from their parents as they tried to gain entry into the United States. It stated that their are still over 700 out of over 2,654 children who have not been returned to their parents or guardians. Some of these parents have even been made to return to their home countries alone and without their children. The article states that the administration is not doing everything that it possibly can to get those children back to their parents and even goes as far as to say that this is an intentional effort to "steal" children away from their families in order to hold them hostage in a feeble attempt to sabotage their parents chances of gaining asylum into the United States.
Analysis
This article about immigration and children being separated from their parents does a very good job telling a horrendously sad story about how these young children are being kept apart from their families for no other reason than our Administrations need to further their plans for closing the borders. It does this by appealing to our empathetic side, as no one, no matter what party or affiliation you belong to wants to hear about children being held "hostage" and not being allowed to be with their families. In that aspect CNN has definitely achieves its goal and furthered their cause.
Opinion
My opinion on this matter is most likely not a popular one. While I do agree it is never a good thing to keep children away from their families unless absolutely necessary, I also agree that these parents had a choice; to abandon their attempts to enter the United States illegally and take their children home, or to enter the United States and become separated from their children. When you enter the United States illegally, you are breakign the law, making you a criminal. If we do not allow our own criminals who are incarcerated in our jails access to their own chldren, then why would we allow these parents who are breaking the law to enter this country the right to have their own children with them. As long as the children are being taken care of, I do not think this is as big of an issue as the liberal media is making it. Not to mention this has gone on in some scale for years, why is it that it is just now becoming a hot button issue?
