Assessment of the source- ABC News started as a radio station in the 1940's and has since progressed into television and online media. In 1996 ABC was acquired by the Walt Disney company, and has since operated under them. ABC has been found to show a left leaning bias in their reporting, and has even been known to donate to left leaning causes, such as their donation of over one million dollars to the Democratic party in 2008.
Summary of the Article- In this article a ban on 3D Printed weapons is discussed. Cody Wilson, The owner of a company called "Defense Distributed," has been trying to publish instructions on the internet showing how to use a 3D printer to produce untraceable firearms. Washington D.C. and nineteen other states have been fighting against Wilson to stop the publishing of these instructions, which has been proving successful. Wilson has been arguing that stopping him from publishing these blueprints is infringing on his right of freedom of speech.
Analysis of the Article- Throughout the article several people are quoted. Like Judge Robert Lasnik, who issued the sentencing, and the Attorney General of New York, Barbara Underwood. The quotes show the judge breaking down why these firearms pose such a large threat, and the Attorney General showing her support for the ruling, and breaking it down for citizens to understand. Also, several links are interspersed throughout the article, labeling Cody Wilson as a "crypto-anarchist." This automatically paints Wilson in a bad light to the reader, because the label "crypto-anarchist" is very derogatory, and without prior knowledge could lead the reader to develop an opinion without delving further into the subject.
Opinion- In my opinion this article does a fairly good job at explaining the topic at hand. It delves into a brief history of the issue, and offers the current state of the case. It also quotes important members to the case, like the judge handing down the ruling, the defendant's case against the lawsuit, and an outsider's view on the justice system doing it's job.
