The article I choose was posted by NBC news which is directed by Noah Oppenheim. On the NBC news website their claim to their audience is that they intend to satisfy all audiences. Although, I believe that while reading their article they have a drive towards supporting environmental awareness. The tone in the article felt as if they were almost agreeing with the lawyers and other people behind the movement of wanting cigarette butts banned.
In the article "Plastic Straw ban? Cigarette butts are the single greatest source of ocean trash" there is a great amount of information supporting the facts behind cigarettes being the greatest source of trash in the ocean. The article talks about all the efforts behind trying to band cigarette butt filters and to the extend of even trying to band cigarettes. It really emphasis how people are the problem because research shows that people believe it is a tradition to just throw their cigarette butts anywhere they wish weather it be the beach, park, out of their car window or simply on the ground.
The article focuses entirely on the cons of the problem. It mentions the harmful effects on sea animals such as turtles and birds. All the information is backed up with creditable sources such as scientists, lawyers and activist on the topic of environmental awareness. The article mentions a lot of the scientific portion when it depicts the decomposition of the cigarette butts. They even go as far as mentioning different fibers they have tried to make it decompose faster. Although they do mention the smokers prospector what taste good or what fibers make the cigarette less pleasurable it does help give insight in why it is hard to please everyone and why this has been an unless bet tale for both sides.
In my opinion, I believe environmental awareness is essential and without it there could be more things that continue to damage our environment. The problem with damaging our environment is that sea creatures are not the only living things affected but so is the human race. A problem in sea life will affect the food chain on a larger scale.
